Nike spent $15,000 on a special machine just to make Florida State center Michael Ojo’s shoes

They’re as big as Shaq’s, and way bigger than Yao Ming’s

Florida State Seminoles center Michael Ojo is 7’1, so you’ll be unsurprised to learn that he has huge feet. But how big? This big.

Sideline reporter Evan Washburn is holding a shoe custom-made by Nike specifically for Ojo. Because Ojo’s feet are uniquely shaped, Nike couldn’t make shoes that fit him when he first signed with FSU, so they had to build a machine just for these shoes. Nike must really value their relationship with FSU athletics, because according to Washburn’s report on the TNT broadcast, that machine cost the company $15,000.

Wondering how Ojo’s shoes stack up against some NBA greats? While reports vary on Shaquille O’Neal’s shoe size, Ojo’s is roughly the same — 22, give or take a size, depending on the report. Yao Ming and Kevin Durant both wear a size 18, while LeBron James wears a size 15. Ojo’s feet are just a tad bigger than the active NBA leaders in shoe size, the Lopez twins, who wear size 20.

Back in 2014, ACC Network talked to Ojo about the shoes and he revealed that he never had shoes that fit before he got to Florida State. While he was in high school, Ojo had to try to shove his feet into size 17 shoes to play basketball.

Thankfully, Ojo has some shoes that fit now. That’s been great for Florida State’s defense, and probably Ojo’s comfort too.
